CONSIDER THE LOBSTER

In consider the lobster, David Foster Wallace mentions someone being selfish. People are truly all selfish. In the way that we boil lobsters (and all kinds of other animals) to have a meal that is going to go directly through us. Don’t get me wrong though, I love lobster and all the kinds of different things I am fed. I feel part of survival is being selfish. Although, being selfish and being obsessed with yourself is two completely opposite ideas and concepts. It seems hard to get by in the world we live in today if you don’t fight for yourself. It seems as if its cruel and unusual punishment to devour animals that should have the same rights as we do. Yet, if we didn’t do the things we did, would there be over population? The people who serve lobster at restaurants should consider killing the lobster before hand instead of boiling them though a slow and painful death. Society is unequal and therefore gives people and animals different advantages, or in the lobsters case, disadvantages. As time goes by, we must do what we feel to be best in our interest. Although, it seems selfish to put an animal though pain, if you don’t like the thought of it, then don’t eat the lobster. The lobster is a kind of experience that David Foster Wallace goes through. An event that made an impact on his life.
