This article shows how gruesome and rude children are in school. The ‘uncool’ students strive for the attention of the so-called popular kids in school, yet the popular kids are only popular because they put everyone else down and put themselves on a pedestal. Many students in and out of school struggle with bullying but it is all about telling yourself you are something else, as Roxanne told herself she was Miss America or live in a somewhat of a fantasy world.
My awkward years started when I was in 5th grade and ended about 11th grade. I remember in those awkward years I reread The Harry Potter series about four times. Reading is a time to forget. I still avoid reading the continuation of the new Harry Potter series because of the fear they will not be as good. The book Roxanne is referring to has a completely different author though, but is still terrible.
Our imaginations can do amazing things. We live in dream worlds where only good things happen. Avoiding reality is an ideal life but at some point you have to accept you cannot always make your dream world your reality. We must find who we want to be in our imaginations and then make it who we are now. I believe Roxanne teaches us we must have goals that we may never achieve but strive to get as close to the goals as we can.
